What happened

COVER reported that hololive Indonesia's fifth-anniversary show “Chromatic Future,” held November 15, 2025 in Tangerang, was the first offline performance from its Virtual Live Development Project using Unreal Engine. The production combined real-time backgrounds, simulated effects and a modified HoloToonUE shader for anime-style talent models. TouchDesigner and venue-style DMX controls connected virtual scene changes with live operation.

The project is significant because it treats a virtual body as part of the whole stage system. Hair, clothing, shadows, rain and multiple light sources were coordinated with the performance instead of added only after capture. The audience therefore saw a body whose apparent material conditions could change with the same cues that shape a physical concert.

The human implication

This expands expressive control while increasing the number of failure points and authors. A represented performer depends on tracking, rendering, lighting direction and software modifications that can amplify or misstate a movement. Production teams need rehearsal practices that let the performer understand how those layers will present them, plus fallback behavior that preserves dignity when tracking or rendering breaks.

COVER's technical account establishes the event, its first-project status and the named rendering and control methods. It is also the producer's own description; it does not independently evaluate realism, latency or audience experience. The stronger measure is whether the system supports intentional live performance, readable credits and recoverable mistakes rather than simply producing more visual detail. Publishing a technical and creative credit sheet would help later viewers clearly distinguish performer choices from animation, rendering and venue-control decisions.

Sources & limits

COVER documents the event and its Unreal-based rendering and control workflow; performance quality and audience effects are producer claims, not independent findings.
