What happened
Ubisoft released Just Dance VR: Welcome to Dancity for Meta Quest headsets in October 2024, developed with Soul Assembly and using Ready Player Me avatars. The game offered 25 songs in 360-degree spaces, a two-handed scoring system and social areas where up to six friends could gather in an Apartment. Ready Player Me described customizable full-body XR avatars intended to carry movement through dances and the surrounding hub. Here the avatar is simultaneously the score-bearing player, a visible dancer and a social body between songs.
Dance makes representation unusually physical. A costume and face communicate chosen style, while tracked hands and inferred body motion communicate effort, rhythm and error. The system decides how limited controller inputs become a whole-body performance. That translation can make movement legible and joyful, but it can also standardize bodies around a choreography and hide which parts were actually performed.
The human implication
A social dance space can lower self-consciousness by offering a designed body, or raise it when others treat the avatar's animation as a faithful measure of skill. Players benefit when the game makes scoring inputs and decorative motion easy to distinguish. Body options also matter: customization should support expressive difference without implying that one shape is the natural container for a particular movement.
The first-party sources establish the collaboration, release platform, song count, social spaces and avatar integration. They do not independently prove tracking accuracy, inclusive customization or improved social connection. The case is distinct from avatar portability as an abstract infrastructure claim: it is a concrete 2024 production where an external avatar system met a licensed dance game and a shared room. Its human value depends on whether players can understand what their represented body is doing and still feel ownership of the performance.

Ubisoft and Ready Player Me document the game and avatar integration; tracking quality, inclusion and player experience require separate evidence.
