A brief built for the reveal
VRChat announced its Spookality 2024 winners on October 21. The selected avatars included Mr. Muffin by HTDuy, Gourd Lord by Katten? and MorphoGhost by Sillurgy. The earlier contest brief asked makers to use size to change an avatar’s appearance or function. It also required PC and Android support and a Medium or better performance rating. The top 25 avatars were selected for a picker near the Default Home’s size-adjustment area. Put together, the brief and that placement invited visitors to try the transformation instead of only judging a thumbnail.
Scale is not just a bigger-or-smaller slider. It can shift who gets noticed, how a room feels, whether a creature reads as threatening, tender, funny or weird, and which interactions become possible. A size-triggered reveal gives the wearer a small moment to perform. The cross-platform performance requirement keeps that moment connected to the people sharing the room, including people on a different device.
The social read matters too
An avatar that changes scale can be a performance tool, a social signal or an accessibility feature. It can also prompt assumptions when other users read size as an invitation, a status move or a joke. The person behind the avatar needs control over when a change happens and how it lands. A public picker gives creators useful discovery, while making clear attribution and respect for their stated terms more important.
VRChat’s post establishes the contest rules, named selections and planned picker placement. It does not evaluate every submission or include independent testimony from winners. So this profile treats the official material as evidence of a design brief and its selected work, not proof of a wider cultural effect.
